Activity 1.12 „Workshop on the role of the SME in the EU and transition countries’ growth“ was organized by partners from Juraj Dobrila University in Pula from 15th -17th September 2011 on the Brijuni Islands. The partners were given presentations on successful companies such as Infobip, A.B.S. and Trapan, three very different companies which struggle with different problems with their daily operations and strategic thinking but are all successful as they managed to find their niche and pursue it. Infobip (http://www.infobip.com/) deals with telecommunications and in several years grew to be a proper born global based in Pula, Croatia; A.B.S. (http://www.abs.hr/) deals with construction and it is a family run business currently pusuing an internationalization strategy; and Trapan (http://trapan.hr/) is the wine maker which entrepreneurial spirit and spite to grow grapes and produce wine in a distinct environment of Istria gave rise to a well known winery. The presentation was also held by Mr. Trezner, the executive director of Association of Croatian Travel Agencies where he gave a presentation on SMEs in tourism and the way of strategic thinking necessary for their successful operation and growth. He emphasized the value of one kuna, dollar or euro for the operation of the SME. Partners also had a planning and coordination meeting where future activities and eventual problems were discussed.
